Chrono Trigger was released in 1995 for the SNES (Super Nintendo entertainment System) and is believed to one of the greatest games in its genre. In 2008 a new enhanced version of the game was released for Nintendo DS by Square Enix. The game has broken many barriers that have held down other games in its league.
The game takes place in an earth like world at several eras of time such as the pre-historic, the middle ages and the post-apocalyptic future between which the players must travel to obtain allies, assemble tools, and learn information to help them in their quest to rescue their misfortunate companion lost in tome due to a teleportation device malfunction. The game unveils an evil force at work set to destroy the world. The players must race against time to change history and bring about a brighter future. The game battle system employs an Active Time Battle System where the characters have to wait for their ATBS bar to fill up before performing actions. You get to select 3 characters for your team from the 6 available options each with different elements and abilities. The game has successfully avoided annoying random battles by providing a map and showing positions of various game elements.
While transporting the players through time the game itself has remained an icon for the genre for almost 20 years. If you’ve never played the game before it is a must have and if you’ve played the older version there many new features to look forward to.
